Campaign Launches on International Women’s Day

Torrance, CA — Torrance City Councilmember Sharon Kalani is running for Mayor of Torrance, officially launching her campaign on International Women’s Day: a moment that recognizes the leadership, contributions, and impact of women in communities around the world.

Kalani, who currently serves on the Torrance City Council, is running on a platform focused on thoughtful leadership, community collaboration, and ensuring Torrance continues to thrive as one of Southern California’s most vibrant and welcoming cities.

“For me, leadership begins with listening,” said Kalani. “Torrance is a community filled with passionate residents, small businesses, families, and leaders who care deeply about our city’s future. As mayor, my priority will be bringing people together, hearing all perspectives, and making decisions that move Torrance forward.”

Kalani’s campaign will focus on strengthening the local economy, supporting Torrance’s small businesses, maintaining public safety, having responsible, financial leadership, focusing on local priorities such as Torrance parks, and fostering community collaboration. She emphasizes a practical, solutions-oriented approach to leadership that prioritizes what is best for the city and its residents.

“Torrance deserves leadership that is thoughtful, ethical, and focused on results,” Kalani added. “Torrance has been my home for more than four decades. As a Councilmember, Mayor Pro Tem, business leader, and longtime community volunteer, I’ve dedicated my career to strengthening the city we all love.​ ​

I’m running for Mayor because I believe Torrance deserves steady leadership that listens carefully, evaluates the facts, and makes responsible decisions that serve our entire community.”

Launching her campaign on International Women’s Day underscores Kalani’s belief in the importance of diverse leadership and the role women play in shaping strong communities. Throughout her career, she has been committed to service, collaboration, and building bridges across different perspectives.

It’s been almost a quarter of a century since the city of Torrance has had a woman mayor. Mayors Katy Geissert and Dee Hardsion made lasting contributions that have defined Torrance today. Sharon Kalani is following in the footsteps of these two great women leaders. ”Dee would have loved to see Sharon be the next Mayor”, Lowell Hardison (Spouse of Dee Hardison).

Community members, local leaders, and supporters are expected to join Kalani in the coming months as the campaign engages residents across Torrance to discuss the future of the city.

The Torrance mayoral election will take place on June 2, 2026.
